The second event organized by Izmir University of Economics Department of Architecture in scope of the celebration of 10th year of the department was TRANS_ARCH_EDU Panel.
The panel aimed to provide a shared platform for exploring approaches to address new directions in architectural education. The speakers were asked to focus on the acute issues at the intersection of two thematic sessions, one being concerned with emerging computational design approaches, and the other with interdisciplinary frameworks in architectural education. The panel was dedicated to fostering a constructive dialogue between leading academics and practitioners concerned with ideas that will take architectural education forward.
The first panel themed “Role of Computational Design in Architecture” was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Güzden Varınlıoğlu. The speakers, Prof. Dr. Gülsüm Baydar, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sema Alaçam, March Grellert and Gudjon Thor Erlendsson, focused on the topics such as “the relationship of education and practice” and “the production of meaning in architecture and its abandonment in favor of technique”. The second session aimed to focus on “Interdisciplinary Strategies in Architectural Education”. Türel Saranlı, Prof. Dr. Zuhal Özcan, Prof. Dr. Zuhal Ulusoy and Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanos N. Stasinopoulos adressed to the discussions of “production of knowledge and its relationship to architectural production and “the value of applied project workshops with students” with the moderation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Demirbaş.
